OUR FARM
We are a boarding, training, and breeding facility set upon 40 acres in Caledon, Ontario, just ten minutes away from the Caledon Equestrian Park. It is the first Lusitano breeding facility in Canada and home to over 30 horses. The import of 10 breeding Lusitanos from Portugal in the early 1980s has produced over 100 offspring and growing. The feel of our family business is relaxed, mature, and on "Portuguese Time", welcoming all to slow down, learn and enjoy.
The horses enjoy group turnout into the fields, the stallions on individual turnout in paddocks and pasture, and the Trans-Canada trail nearby offers scenic trails. We grow our own hay and purchase additional locally and provide an uncomplicated, high-performance feed mixture.
Riders enjoy a 20x40 indoor arena (heated as required), a 40x80 outdoor sand arena, and an outdoor round sand "bullring" one would typically find at the coudelarias in Portugal and Spain.
While most of our students enrol in a boarding and training program with their own horse, we welcome you to take lessons on our master schooling horses, whether on a weekly basis or at intensive intervals over a few days. Students enjoy the private interaction of tacking up their horse, ridding themselves of distraction as they prepare for their lesson. Groups often finish their lesson with a quadrille that requires a shift in focus, one which guarantees an energized student long after the hard work is over. Undoubtedly, lessons at Grelo Farms have a flair not to be found anywhere else.
Feel free to visit anytime between 9:00am-1:00pm to watch the morning exercises. To discuss boarding, training, breeding, lessons or a clinic, call or email us today.
